Project Summary
MDR in AIS aims to improve outcomes for Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO) Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) patients who are secondarily transferred to Comprehensive Stroke Centres (CSCs) for Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) by implementing a streamlined stroke management pathway.
It addresses multiple dimensions of health systems and focuses on quality, safety, equity, efficiency, effectiveness, accessibility, sustainability, and economy. The increasing incidence of Acute Ischemic Stroke cases and the growing demand for MT place a significant burden on national healthcare systems and emergency departments (EDs). The project aims to alleviate this burden and ensure efficient treatment. It also emphasizes evidence-based approaches, drawing on successful workflows in ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction management. The optimized pathway involves streamlining decision-making, enhancing collaboration, improving referrals, and leveraging telemedicine. These strategies promote sustainability, patient-centered care, and optimize resource allocation. Telemedicine enables remote assessment and diagnosis, facilitating timely interventions, reducing treatment delays, and thus improving patient outcomes in critical and time-sensitive situations. If successful, the project can have a positive impact on various settings and health systems, promoting evidence-based practices and collaboration across Europe.
Cooperation among stakeholders will lead to better services, economic gains, and organizational improvements. Sharing stroke pathways and addressing differences among European countries is crucial for this collaboration. We strongly believe that improvement in this specific field and the implementation of innovative solutions can also address future challenges faced by health and care systems, embracing a forward-thinking approach and increasing resilience.
